Helping couples prepare for birth and parenting since 1992

This series of eight classes is designed for the mother-to-be and her support person. It is designed for anyone planning a drug-free birth – whether at home or in the hospital.  Classes meet Mondays, from 7-9pm at the Nash/Finch Building, 612 E. Main Street, Suite C.   We have guest speakers, watch films, tour the hospital, journal, color, and basically have fun while we learn about pregnancy, birth, and early parenting.  Three series of class are offered each year.
The next classes will start:
  • September 10, 2007,
  • January 14, 2008,
  • April 7, 2008

Each series covers the following topics:
  • Basic anatomy of pregnancy and birth,
  • Body changes,
  • Emotional changes,
  • Preparing the body for birth,
  • Physical intimacy during pregnancy,
  • Nutrition,
  • Stages of labor,
  • Comfort Measures for labor and birth,
  • Relaxation and breathing techniques,
  • Newborn care,
  • New mother care,
  • Breastfeeding --  How-to breastfeed and where to find support,
  • Exercises for after the baby is born,
  • Communication,
  • Parenting a newborn

“I was surprised at how much fun the classes were. I was so sad when they were over.  I just wanted to keeping coming to class – they were that much fun.”

“When I was in labor and something would change, I would remember what I learned in class and think “Yes, this is supposed to happen.”  I was able to stay calm and feel confident that my labor was going well instead of being afraid of the new, more intense sensation.  I’m really glad we took your class.  I felt well prepared for giving birth.”

“I hadn’t thought much about being a father or about how our marriage would change.  I think this class really helped us, not just prepare for the birth, but helped us get ready to be parents.  I feel like I know my wife so much better now. I’m excited to be a Dad.”

“I just feel like I can do it now. I can give birth.  I wasn’t so sure before taking this class.”

“Having the new parents come to class was incredible.  I could almost see us as them, us as parents.  I didn’t know that I had so many questions. They were great. They really shared what it was like to have a new baby.  And the babies were so different.  I didn’t know that.”
